Estonian prime minister resigns over new coalition

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas is resigning due to the formation of a new ruling coalition.

This is reported RBC-Ukraine.

Her resignation was reportedly a condition for Isamaa’s party to join the coalition. Although Kallas herself, who heads the Reform Party, denies this.

“I made this proposal myself, because if I just appointed new ministers, there would be a lot of noise and discontent,” she said.

A new government should be formed as soon as possible, she said, but it could be difficult to convene parliament as the summer holidays have already begun.

She also noted that the negotiations ended with an ambitious coalition agreement. It includes an increase in child benefits and tax-free minimum wage to 654 euros.

In addition, in 2024, the transition to Estonian-language education will begin in kindergartens, as well as in the first and fourth grades.
