Ukrainian drones attacked Izhevsk, a city about 1,300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, on the morning of July 1. The attack took place shortly before 9 a.m. Rosaviatsia imposed restrictions on aircraft arrival and departure at the local airport at 8:50 Moscow time (the restrictions were lifted shortly after noon).

One of the enterprises in Izhevsk was hit by Ukrainian drones, and a fire broke out, Udmurtia’s head Alexander Brechalov said in his Telegram channel. He did not specify which enterprise he was talking about. According to the head of the region, three people were killed in the attack. Thirty-five wounded were hospitalized, 10 of them are in serious condition, Brechalov said. Among the injured is one child, he is in a condition of average severity, reported the Mash telegram channel, close to law enforcement agencies. At the site of the impact continue to dismantle the rubble, writes Baza.

The head of Udmurtia said that he reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin about what happened in Izhevsk. According to Brechalov, Putin expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. The President himself did not comment on the attack on Izhevsk at the time of publication of the text “Meduza”.

Izhevsk electromechanical plant “Kupol” was attacked, reported the Ukrainian telegram channel Exilenova+. A local resident said the same in a video published by Astra. On the damaged building, as follows from one of the videos of eyewitnesses, you can see the inscription “Kupol”. Social network X user with the nickname 99Dominik_ geolocated another video – it was filmed a few hundred meters away from one of the production sites of the Kupol plant.

Attention. There is a mat on the recording.

The Kupol plant is “one of the main producers of Tor SAMs and Harpy-A1 attack UAVs for the Russian army,” said Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. The enterprise is part of the Almaz-Antey concern. The factory assembles anti-aircraft missile systems and drones based on Chinese engines and components, Reuters reported. The plant is under EU and U.S. sanctions, The Bell noted.

The Kupol plant was attacked by Ukrainian Security Service drones, sources told Ukrainian publications RBC-Ukraine and Hromadske. According to them, long-range drones hit the plant’s production facilities and warehouses, and at least two drone strikes on the plant’s buildings were recorded. The enterprise fulfills the orders of the Russian Defense Ministry: it specializes in the manufacture of anti-aircraft missile systems “Tor” and “Osa”, and also develops attack drones “Harpia”, said, in turn, the source “Suspilne”.

The Ukrainian military used modernized Lyuty kamikaze drones in the attack, according to Mezha.Media, a project of Ukrainska Pravda, which studied a video of the flight of one of the drones. As the publication notes, the recording shows that the drone has no landing gear, so, as the journalists suggest, it could have been launched not from the road, but from a stationary catapult or a special mobile transportation platform.

This is at least the second known Ukrainian drone attack on Udmurtia – the first occurred in November 2024.

Representatives of the SBU and the AFU General Staff did not comment on the attack on Izhevsk at the time of publication.

Edit. The text originally reported that this was the first known Ukrainian drone attack on Izhevsk. It wasn’t. The editorial board apologizes.
