How to move your company to a “remote location”. IT-businessman Roman Felik named the main rules
With the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic many companies were forced to fully or partially redirect employees to telecommuting. However, “distant” does not mean that employees without meetings at the cooler will work worse – the main thing is to build effective communication. To do this, it is important to adhere to several key principles.
The owner of one of the largest IT-companies in Ukraine, millionaire businessman Roman Felik told about it.
“I learned how to optimize these processes long before it became a forced necessity,” he says.
Unified tools and cloud storage
The first thing to do is set up a work infrastructure. Everything that helps communicate and solve work issues needs to be brought to the cloud.
“You need to decide right away on a standard set of tools that all the employees will be using. What program to use for video calls, where to store and discuss layout design, what task tracker to use – all this should be available for everyone, “- says Roman Felik.
Proper communication
It is also important to pay attention to the culture of working communication. At a “remote” site, employees need a higher level of independence and organization. Therefore, in order for the process to go “painlessly”, it is necessary to maintain the emotional component:
“Be polite in correspondence: it is very easy to read the text in the wrong intonation, which will distort the meaning of the message. Be patient in explaining things you do not understand: some people find it difficult to absorb information without non-verbal contact, this feature should be taken into account. On calls and especially during meetings at a “remote” is better to include video – this allows more accurate understanding of intonation and faster to discuss the work task, “- said Roman Felik.
Trust
Many entrepreneurs and bosses created problems for themselves by not trusting their subordinates.
“Trust in an employee should not be limited to the confines of the office. If we hire a person, it means we trust them. If there are suspicions, or the person compromised himself during his work, then it is better to say goodbye, but not to ruin your nerves, “- says Felik.
Individual approach
Distance work greatly reduces the amount of live communication. It can’t be completely replaced, but you can supplement work communication with a more friendly tone and conversation.
“Managers and supervisors should show interest in the life of their employees from time to time: take an interest in what they have going on, talk about their interests, or discuss the latest news. However, it is worth taking into account the temperament of the interlocutor: not everyone is ready to get close to colleagues or management and talk about their lives. In this case, a more informal and warm discussion of business matters would be enough, “- shares the experience of an IT-businessman.
Recall that Roman Felik’s track record includes more than 11 projects, the most famous of which are: an Instagram promotion platform Instime, a cryptocurrency wallet, online education programs and others.
He also manages the British Investment Fund and the International Association for Blockchain Technology.
The effectiveness of his work is confirmed by the results of Felik’s projects. For example, the head of the “Servant of the People” faction in the Verkhovna Rada, David Arahamia, spoke of Instime’s success. According to him, it is “one of the most promising Ukrainian IT-projects”.
According to Felik, the Instime service, which he created, made a monthly profit of USD 3 million just in six months.
